How Often Do Seniors Need Eye Exams?

Once you reach age 60, you need an eye exam at least once a year. Regular eye exams are the best and only way to confirm you’re wearing the correct prescription, monitor any vision changes you might experience, and maintain your overall eye health. If it’s been over a year since your last eye exam, schedule an appointment with us.

The Risk of Many Eye Diseases Increases With Age

As you get older, your eyes become more vulnerable to conditions like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and cataracts. Most eye diseases appear without any noticeable symptoms and can result in permanent vision loss. The best way to catch eye diseases early and mitigate the effects is through regular eye exams.

The eye exams at Shelburne Primary Eye Care are known for being exceptionally thorough.

The retina is a complex series of tissues which covers 60% of the inside of your eye. These tissues are responsible for detecting light and sending messages to the brain. If the retina becomes unhealthy or damaged, it can have a serious impact on your sight. We prescribe technologically advanced methods of retinal imaging (including our digital retinal camera and our Optomap) to exam the structure and overall health of your retina.

Thanks to this inside perspective, we can often diagnose and treat potential eye issues before they start to cause serious problems!

We are strong advocates of proactive, holistic healthcare. That’s why we make a point of educating all our patients on the benefits of proper eye nutrition. There is evidence to suggest that a diet rich in certain nutrients can help delay or prevent eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, and even dry eye!

We aim to arm all of our patients with a strong education on eye nutrition, empowering them to take a proactive approach to eye care.
